Kathai Michels

Mrs. Kathai Michels, 70, of 25765 Edison, was found dead by a neighbor about noon Wednesday in her home, apparently of natural causes.  According to county police, Mrs. Michels had been under a doctor’s care. 

 

She was born on April 11, 1907, in Chicago and lived here since 1938, after coming from Chicago.  In 1923, in Romania, she married Peter Michels, who preceded her in death. 

 

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Betty Parker of Rantoul, Ill.; three sons, Nick of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Peter Jr. of Fort Wayne and Jack J. of Peoria, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Miller of Romania and Mrs. Gertrude Decker, both of Romania, and a brother, John Decker of Germany.

 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Mayflower Baptist Church, with Rev. Alex Konya, officiating. 

 

Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.  Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood. 

 

Mrs. Michels was a resident supervisor at Camp Ray Bird.  She was a member of the church.
