Martha M. Michels

Mishawaka - Martha M. Michels, 75, of Medco Nursing Center, South Bend, died at 2:20 a.m. today in the nursing center after an illness.  She had retired from AAA Credit Union in 1973 after 15 years of employment. 

Born Sept. 19, 1911, in Mishawaka, she was a lifelong area resident. 

As Martha M. Nix, on June 7, 1941, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mishawaka, she married John F. “Jack” Michels.  He died on Dec. 18, 1984. 

Survivors include a daughter, Helen Dobson of Springfield, Ill.; a son, John E. Michels of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Gerndt of Granger; and a brother, Charles Nix of South Bend.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph’s Church.  Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where the church’s Rosary Society will recite a rosary at 3 p.m. and a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association of St. Joseph County. 

Mrs. Michels belonged to Harvest House as well as the Rosary Society and choir of St. Joseph’s Church.
