Ellen “Nellie” Mae Michels

Nov. 1875 – Apr. 11, 1947

Mrs. Nellie M. Michels, of 901 East LaSalle avenue, died at 6:20 a.m. today in her residence after an illness of one year. 

 

She was born in Big Rapids, Mich., and moved to Mishawaka in 1893.  In 1904 she came to South Bend. 

 

On June 20, 1899, in Mishawaka, she was married to Arthur J. Michels, who survives. 

 

Other survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Charles C. Armstrong, Mrs. Herbert P. Affelder, Mrs. John T. Harrington and Mrs. Lloyd A. Elk, all of South Bend; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Burnas Michels, of South Bend, widow of Carroll A. Michels, who was reported missing in 1945 while serving as a navigator aboard a bomber; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bickel and Mrs. Lena Sullivan, both of Mishawaka, and Mrs. Josephine Throp, Big Rapids. 

 

Friends may call in the residence after 7 p.m. Saturday.  She was a member of the Altar society of St. Joseph’s Catholic church.

The viewing of Mrs. Arthur J. Michels, of 901 East LaSalle avenue, who died Friday, will be in the McGann funeral home instead of in the residence as was previously announced.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
