Richard Frederick Michels

Richard F. Michels, 68, of 930 S. 28th, died Thursday in Tigard, Ore., of an apparent heart attack while he was on vacation there. 

 

He was born on Aug. 7, 1914, in Mishawaka, and had lived in this area all his life.  He retired in 1979 from McCaffery Lighting Center. 

 

He married Berniece Harris in Mishawaka on May 3, 1941.  She survives, along with a daughter, Betty Ann Holden of Houston, Tex.; five sons, Richard F. Michels II of Severna Park, Md., William of Topeka, Ind., Robert of Wolcottville, Ind., and Daniel and Jeffery, both of South Bend; seven grandchildren; and three brothers, Hugh, Gerald and J.J., all of Mishawaka.

 

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka. 

 

Michels was a member of Mishawaka VFW Post 360, St Anthony’s Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, and was a veteran of World War II. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana School for the Deaf.

Services for Richard F. Michels, 68, of 930 S. 28th, who died Thursday while vacationing in Tigard, Ore., will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.  Rev. Robert A. Yast, pastor, will officiate. 

 

Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.  Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana School for the Deaf.
