Marjory S. Mickelsen

Marjory S. Mickelsen, 83, died on Monday, May 3, after a long illness. The daughter of Harry C. Stiles and Martha Rockne Stiles, Marjory Mickelsen was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 27, 1915. The niece of Knute Rockne, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

 

In April 1937 she married Warren Mickelsen, who also preceded her in death in April 1971. She is survived by a brother, Walter R. Stiles of Flat Rock, N.C.; three children: a son, David J. of Salt Lake City, Utah, and two daughters, Karen Campbell of Fayetteville, N.C., and Kristi S. Mickelsen of Dayton, Ohio; and by five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

 

She retired in 1981 as a secretary in the Speech and Drama departments of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College, and the Personnel Department of Saint Mary's College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the 50-50 Class, the Rebeccah Perkey Guild, P.E.O. Chapter BX, the Progress Club, Vesterheim and Vesterlanget, was a docent at the Copshaholm House Museum, a volunteer at the Budget Corner, and was a charter member of the Knute Rockne Lodge of the Sons of Norway.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to The National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1150 17th Ave. NW, Suite 500, Washington, D.C. 20036, in the name of Dr. Barbara Williams. There will be no visitation but a memorial service and dessert in celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 7th, on the north lawn (or the parlor in case of rain) of the Grace United Methodist Church, 3012 S. Twyckenham Drive. The Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
