Forrest C. Miller: (South Bend Tribune 5/1/2005)


Oct. 8, 1926 – April 30, 2005 Forrest C. Miller, 78, South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2005, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Forrest was born on October 8, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Mary Miller, and was a lifelong area resident. On April 19, 1952, he married Elaine L. Nowacki, who survives. He is also survived by his three sons, Chad Miller, Douglas (Steffany) Miller and Bruce (Chris) Miller, all of South Bend; 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Austin, Grace, Gabriel, Alison, Nicole, Colette, Cherie, Jody and Aaron; and by nine great-grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Hilda Powers, Wilma Stuart and Orlu Clemans; and two brothers, Carl and Marvin Miller. Mr. Miller worked for 1st Source Bank for 40 years, before retiring in 1991. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, played baseball for the Army and Indiana State University, dedicated coach at Chet Waggoner Little League for 18 years, he was a South Bend Recreation Supervisor for adult volleyball for 10 years. He and his wife Elaine celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary on April 19, 2002. Forrest was known to friends and family as "Pooch." Pooch loved sports, coaching, playing golf, children, vacationing in Gulf Shores, Alabama and the Chicago Cubs. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 PM Monday, May 2, 2005, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a 4:30 PM parish Rosary will be recited. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, May 3, 2005, in Holy Cross Church, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Chet Waggoner Little League or to Holy Cross Church.
