Manly F. Miller

Aug. 25, 1912 - April 9, 1999

Manly Francis Miller, 86, loving husband, father and grandfather, residing on Battles Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away peacefully at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, April 9, in his home.

Mr. Miller was born to Harry and Marie (Martin) Miller on Aug. 25, 1912, in Lincoln, Neb., and had lived in the South Bend area since 1937, coming from Chicago, Ill., where he received his education.

He was retired from Phillips Industries in Elkhart, Ind., where he served as a salesman for 24 years. He had previously been employed with Prudential Insurance Company and Yeager Buick, both in South Bend.

On Sept. 28, 1940, in South Bend, he married Merle B. Witham.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Merle; two daughters, Krista Kurtz of Wilder, Idaho and Cynthia Hanlon of South Bend; four grandchildren, Eric Bowers, stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard in Peoria, Ill., George Niblick and Kimberly Niblick, both of South Bend, and David Bowers of Middlebury, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Gwen Kelly of Clearwater, Fla.

Mr. Miller was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Mishawaka, Ind. and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Private family services are being held. There will be no visitation.
