SOUTH BEND - Sophie E. Miller, 86, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2010, in Hospice House. Sophie was born on February 20, 1924, in South Bend, to the late Mieczyslaw and Teofila "Tillie" (Waligorski) Sobierajski. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Joseph Sobierajski and John Sobierajski; and by her sister, Valentina (Wally) Sobierajski. She is survived by her two sons, David (Susan) Miller of South Bend and Dale (Barb Matheson) Miller of Edwardsburg, MI; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeremy; six great-grandchildren; her brother, Leo Sobierajski; and by her dear friend, Carolyn Miller. Sophie was a teller for 1st Source Bank for many years and was a member of the 1st Source Women's Club. She sang in the Frederick Chopin Choir and in St. Mary's National Church Choir. She was a member of St. Mary's National Church. Sophie enjoyed cooking and loved collecting knickknacks. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. today, May 26, 2010, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010, in St. Mary's National Church. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to St. Mary's National Church, 1601 W. Sample, South Bend, IN 46619. For those who are unable to attend the funeral Mass, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
