MRS. R. P. MILTON TAKEN BY DEATH

Widow of Druggist Dies in Epworth Hospital.

Mrs. Robert P. Milton, for most of her life residing at 404 West Washington avenue, passes away in Epworth Hospital at 12:35 a. m. today of complications.  She entered the hospital in August and underwent several operations, the latest one performed last week.
Mrs. Milton was the only child of the late Mr. and Mrs. William D. Smith, well known residents of South Bend in an earlier day.  Mr. Smith served as St. Joseph county auditor from 1876 into 1883.  Later they moved to Los Angeles, Calif.  Mr. Smith died there Nov. 8, 1902.  Mrs. Smith passed away some years later.  Mrs. Milton was born in South Bend April 14, 1861, and most of her life was spent in the city.  Her education was obtained in the public schools and in the noted Smith College in Northampton, Mass.

Married in 1888.

She was married to Robert P. Milton in this city Dec. 9, 1888.  Mr. Milton was one of South Bend's best known druggists.  The drug firm of Milton and Ellel had a store at the northwest corner of Main street and Washington avenue.  When the present Oliver hotel was built the firm was dissolved and Mr. Milton later was in the drug business at 117 West Washington avenue.  He passed away Sept. 19, 1931.
Mrs. Milton was a member of the First Presbyterian church, of the Progress club and of the Wednesday club.  A characteristic of Mrs. Milton was her great respect and pleasing attention to elderly persons.  It probably was this characteristic which prompted her and her husband before his death to make provision after both passed away for the establishment of an old people's home.  While economic conditions have changed greatly since Mr. and Mrs. Milton planned for such a home it is expected that every endeavor will be made to carry out their desires.  Mrs. Milton had planned that her West Washington avenue residence should be used.

Funeral Monday.

Friends will be received in the residence from 2 p. m. Sunday until 2 p. m. Monday when the funeral will be conducted there by Rev. Charles Topper Balllle, D. D., pastor of First Presbyterian church.  Burial will be in Riverview cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harry E. Wheelock, sr., David R. Vaugh, Franklin D. Schurz, Hugh V. McVicker, W. K. Lamport and R. W. Goheen.
