Margaret Schuttrow Mitchell

SOUTH BEND - Margaret Schuttrow Mitchell, 83, residing in South Bend, passed away at 8:13 a.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008, in Southfield Village, South Bend. She was born June 21, 1925, in South Bend, the daughter of Gustave C. and Anna M. (DeGrove) Schuttrow, and had been a lifelong resident. On October 11, 1947, in South Bend, as Margaret Schuttrow, she was united in marriage to Robert L. Mitchell. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage until his passing on February 14, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brenda Wray on March 27, 2008; and by a brother, Harold Schuttrow. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann (Malcolm) Cain, Suzanne (Michael) Ward and Jeanne (Jeffrey) DuBois, all of South Bend; three sons, James (Annette) Mitchell of Osceola, William (Jan) Mitchell of South Bend and Charles (Gina) Mitchell of Osceola; and a brother, Charles (Delores) Schuttrow of Rensselaer, IN. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, Robert Zimmer, Brian (Jennifer) Zimmer, Megan Mitchell, Michael (Holly) Mitchell, John Mitchell, Thomas Mitchell, Anna Marie (Eric) Amos, Christy (Ryan) Anderson, Jake (Nicole) Mitchell, Steven Mitchell, Dan Mitchell, Matthew DuBois, Mark (Melissa) DuBois, Jamie Mitchell, Nicholas Mitchell, Brian Mitchell and Christopher Mitchell; and 10 great-grandchildren, Julia, Greta, Charles, Dylan, Joseph, Dion, Brianna, Christy, Quinn and Alex. Mrs. Mitchell graduated from St. Joseph Academy in South Bend. She was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral and its Altar and Rosary Society.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, in St. Matthew Cathedral. Rev. Michael Heintz will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Contributions in memory of Margaret Mitchell may be made to St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613.
