Louis A. Molnar (Aug. 14, 1918 -- Jan. 7, 2005)

Louis A. Molnar, 86, residing on St. Joseph Street, South Bend, passed away at 11:01 a.m. on Friday, January 7, 2005, in St. Paul's Retirement Community, South Bend.

Mr. Molnar was born on August 14, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Michael and Julia (Bokter) Molnar. He had remained a lifelong area resident.

On June 19, 1948, at the First Methodist Church, Mishawaka, he married the former Arlene Burk. Along with his wife of 56 years, Arlene, survivors include two sons, Randy Molnar of South Bend and Thomas (Bonnie) Molnar of Lakeville; one granddaughter, Dawn Boulac of Granger; one great-granddaughter, Kaya Boulac of Granger; four sisters, Sophie Tokay of South Bend, Judy Wiktorowski of Walkerton, Helen Ayers of Plymouth and Elsie Mroczkiewiez of South Bend; and two brothers, Andrew Barna of Austin, Texas, and Steve Molnar of LaPaz.

One sister, Marge Houser, and five brothers, John, Mike, Joseph, Frank and Gene Molnar, have preceded him in death.

Louis served in the United States Army, Airborne Division 101st, Company B-54th Signal Battalion. He served from June 17, 1942, and was honorably discharged on November 12, 1945. Louis worked at Studebaker Corporation from 1939 to 1942 in the driveway department. After serving in the United States Army, he returned to Studebaker, working various jobs in the factory from 1946 to 1963. In July 1964, he worked for what is now known as AM General until his retirement in May 1985 as an inspector on the railroad.

Louis enjoyed putting out a garden every year. Also, he followed the University of Notre Dame sports all of his life. As a young man he played basketball and was on the 1933 city championship team representing North Liberty. Through the years, he attended many of the Studebaker Driver's Club functions, to which both of his sons belong. He loved the cars he helped build. Louis will be missed by one and all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2005, at the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville. Rev. Ed Erskin will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Porter Rae Cemetery, North Liberty. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services at the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN.
