Rev. Anthony D. Molnar (June 18, 1910 -- Dec. 2, 2003
Rev. Anthony D. Molnar, 93, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.
Father Molnar was born on June 18, 1910, in Szombathely, Hungary, to Rudolph and Victoria Molnar. He was ordained on June 24, 1934, in Gyor, Hungary, by Right Rev. Stephen Breyer, Bishop of Gyor, and remained in the Gyor Diocese until 1957. Fr. Molnar also cared for the Hungarian community in Belgium during World War II. In October 1957 he began to serve the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. He resided at Our Lady of Hungary Church and also assisted the pastor of St. Monica Church, Mishawaka, Ind. On Feb. 15, 1958, he was appointed assistant at Our Lady of Hungary Church. On July 1, 1968, Fr. Molnar was appointed pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Lakeville. On July 6, 1978, he was appointed co-pastor of Our Lady of Hungary Church.
Fr. Molnar retired from active service on July 7, 1980, but remained very instrumental in the Hungarian community.
He is survived by a sister, Maria Nemeth and family of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A service of the Reception of the Body will take place at 2 p.m. today in the church, with visitation continuing until 8 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. and a vigil service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hungary Church; or to the Capistran Youth Foundation, P.O. Box 6050, Yorkville Station, New York, NY 10128, which supports countless worthy Hungarian causes.
The Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
