Joseph A. Morey, 68, residing on South Sylvia Drive, North Liberty, Ind., passed away at 10:50 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2001, in his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born August 31, 1932, in Chicago, Ill., as the son of Julius and Glenda (Haven) Morey, and has lived in this area most of his life. On January 18, 1958, in South Bend, Ind., he married Mary M. Strobl. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, along with two daughters, Mary Jo Morey of Granger, Ind., and Joanne M. (Darrin) Klopfenstein of North Liberty; a son, William J. (Cheryl) Morey of Mishawaka, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Andrea York, Kristin York, Holly Klopfenstein, Leah Klopfenstein, Levi Klopfenstein, Victoria Morey, Daniel Hartstein and Carl Hartstein. Also surviving are a sister, Barbara Thompson of Naperville, Ill.; and five brothers, Danny Morey of Rogers, Ark., Alexander Morey of South Bend, George "Ed" Morey of Albuquerque, N.M., James Morey of Middlebrook, Mo., and Lloyd Morey of Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Morey was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Julie A. Morey on August 21,1995.

He retired as Maintenance Mechanic with Raco, Inc., South Bend, where he was employed from 1967-1986. He was a member of North Liberty United Methodist Church; V.F.W. Post 1167, and a lifetime member of D.A.V., both in South Bend. He was a Korean War veteran and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

Services for Joseph A. Morey will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2001, in North Liberty United Methodist Church. Rev. Fred Stayton, pastor, will officiate. Military graveside services and burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 13, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 South Michigan Street, Lakeville, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday in the church.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Morey may be offered to the North Liberty United Methodist Church, 103 South Main Street, North Liberty, IN 46554; or to Marshall County Hospice, 112 South Center St., Suite C, Plymouth, IN 46563.
