George J. Morin

George J. Morin, 86, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away early Friday morning, March 5, in Fountainview Place of Mishawaka. He was born Nov. 27, 1917, in Redridge, Houghton County, Mich., and as a child came to Mishawaka with his family. George attended Mishawaka schools and at the age of 16 joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. From February 1939 to December 1945, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy, where he attained the rank of fireman first class and earned several stars, including two bronze stars. Following his return to Mishawaka, he was employed at South Bend Lathe Works. He later went to work at what is now Rockwell Automation and retired from there in 1979. George's many memberships included St. Bavo Catholic Church, BK Club, DeAmicis Club, Elks Lodge #235, VFW Post #360, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He was an avid sports fan, and was active in many golf leagues throughout the area.

 

George married the former Bertha "Bert" Temmerman on July 16, 1955, in Mishawaka. Besides Bert, he is survived by three sons, Rick, Dean and Frank Morin; a daughter, Sharon Morin; a sister-in-law, Velma Morin; several grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by two sisters, Lenore Hayden and Alice McQueary; and by four brothers, Robert, Charles, Douglas and Larry Morin.

 

Cremation has taken place, with burial at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery in Mishawaka. Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with the Rev. Fr. Barry England as celebrant. Visitation will be in the church one hour prior to the Mass. Memorials are suggested to St. Bavo Church, 511 7th St., Mishawaka, IN 46544. The family is being served by the Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd St., Mishawaka.
