Sister M. Rose Ellen Morrissey

SOUTH BEND - Sister M. Rose Ellen Morrissey, CSC, 73, of Lourdes Convent, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday in River Forest, Ill., following an illness.

She was born March 31, 1921, in Oak Park, Ill., as Rosemary Morrissey. She entered the convent Feb. 14, 1944, and professed her vows Aug. 16, 1946. She was an award-winning artist and an art teacher. Surviving are four sisters, Barbara Kelly and Carol Showel, both of River Forest, Suzanne Gaumond of Hinsdale, Ill., and Marilyn Sparacino of Elmhurst, Ill.; and two brothers, John Morrissey of Oak Brook, and Walter Morrissey of Hinsdale. She received her bachelors degrees from Saint Mary's College, and the Art Institute, Chicago, and her master's degree from School of the Art Institute, Chicago. She was a teacher at St. Joseph's School, St. Mary's Academy, St. Joseph's Academy and Saint Mary's College. She was chairman of the art department at Saint Mary's from 1961-1975.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's College. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today in the church, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. today. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
