SOUTH BEND – Eugene Muia, 74, of 321 E. Dean Street, died at 3:30 a.m. today in St. Joseph Medical Center. He was the former proprietor of Gene’s Food Market and of Orange Julius in Scottsdale Mall,  and was the present owner of the Rainbow Shoppe in Mishawaka, which he opened two weeks ago. Born Sept. 10, 1910, in Siderno, Italy, he lived in South Bend since 1948, coming from Italy.

 

On Nov. 11, 1948, in South Bend, he married Lillian M. Merlo, who survived with three daughters, Cathy Smith and Michelle Germano, both of South Bend, and Mellia Kost of Illinois; a son Carl of South Bend; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Muia of Italy and Emma Campoli of Canada; and five brothers, Vittorie, Paolo, Giovanni and Adolfo, all of Italy, and Anthony ofAustralia. A brother Joseph, died on Dec. 23, 1963.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Guisinger Chapel, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. He was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Services for Eugene Muia, 74, of 321 E. Dean Street, died Wednesday morning in St. Joseph Medical Center 10a.m. Friday in St. Jude’s Catholic Church. Internment will be in Highland Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today in Guisinger Chapel, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
