Sister Miriam Gertrude Mulcaire

Funeral services were held today at Saint Mary’s Convent , for Sister Miriam Gertrude (formerly Birdie Mulcaire) CSC, for many years a teacher in two South Bend parochial schools. Rev. James Mulcaire CSC, her brother, of Beloit, Wis., offered the requiem high mass at the church of Our Lady of Loretto. Burial was in the convent cemetery. Among those attending were two sisters, Sister Maria Gemma CSC and Sister Aloysia Marie CSC.

 

Sister Miriam Gertrude was born in Limerick, Ireland on April 14, 1899. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1923 and made her profession of vows in 1929. St. taught at St. Joseph School in South Bend  from 1932 to 1942 and from 1948 to 1958, and in Holy Cross School in South Bend from 1958 until this year. Other assignments during her more than 40 years of teaching were at St. Alphonsus School in Fresno, Calif.; St. Joseph Home, Washington DC from 1929 to 1932; St. Mary’s School, Woodstock, Ill. from 1942 to 1944; and in Morris, Ill. from 1944 to 1947.
