Mark T. Murphy, 83, of Wakerobin Court, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Monday, Aug. 19, in his residence. Mr. Murphy was born on Sept. 22, 1918, in Hamilton, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Marie Ruth (Lyons) Murphy.

 

On May 3, 1941, he married Doris Pettit, who preceded him in death in 1970. Mr. Murphy moved to the South Bend area in 1960 to work for Bendix, where he was employed as an accounting supervisor for 31 1/2 years.

 

On March 23, 1973, he married Phyllis Whitehead, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Lynne (Joseph) Dzierla of South Bend and Patricia (Harold) Hunt of Palatine, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Vicky (William) Claycomb of South Bend; two stepsons, James (Sarah) Spitzer of Rocky Mount, Va., and Kenneth Spitzer of South Bend; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Marilyn (Joseph) Kovats of Hamilton, Ohio. Along with his first wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Sutton; and by two brothers, Walter "Danny" and Neil Murphy.

 

Mr. Murphy was a United States Marine veteran of World War II, and a parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, South Bend.

 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 21, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a 7 p.m. vigil service will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, in Corpus Christi Church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
