Services for Sister Martha Mary Murphy CSC, 89, of Saint Mary’s Convent, who died about 9:25 a.m. Monday at the convent, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Loretto, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today in the Convent Parlors, where a wake will be at 7 p.m.

Sister Murphy was born Agnes Julia Murphy on Aug. 10, 1900 in Mercer, Utah. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Feb. 15, 1930; was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1930; and professed her vows on Aug. 15, 1932. She was assigned to teach elementary schools in Salt Lake City; in California at Ventura, Oakland, Woodland, San Francisco, Sacramento, Colusa, and Long Beach; and in Idaho at Boise and Idaho Falls from 1932 to 1970. In 1970 she resided at St. Catherine’s Retirement Convent in Ventura, coming to Our Lady of Holy Cross in 1975 and St. Mary’s Convent in 1977.
