Sister M. Francina CSC, died at Saint Mary’s Convent about 7:30 a.m. today after an extended illness. She was born Martha Josephine Murphy in 1882, in South Bend. She attended school in South Bend, including St. Joseph Academy, and entered the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1904, receiving the habit the same year. She made her profession of final vows in 1910. During her community life she served at Peoria and Danville, Illinois; Chicago; Elkhart; East Chicago; Anderson, Ind.; and LaPorte, and in 1941 she taught at St. Joseph Grade School in South Bend. From 1948 to 1958 she was assistant to the mother provincial at the Provincial House in South Bend. In 1958 because of illness, she retired to St. Mary’s Convent.

 

A requiem high mass will be offered in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s Friday morning and burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery there. Friends may call in the convent parlor.
