Sister Josepha Maria Murray CSC

Sister Josepha Maria CSC died at St. Mary’s Convent Wednesday evening following a long illness. She was born Mary Alice Murray in Rantoul, Illinois in 1893. She received her early education in Rantoul and her high school at Mount Saint Joseph in Dubuque, Iowa. Upon completion of her nurse’s traing at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in August, 1918 and made her profession of vows in 1920. During her community life she was on duty at Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio from 1919 to 1943, when she was assigned to nursing duty at St. Mary’s Convent infirmary. She was head nurseat the infirmary for several years and was on duty until recently assisting in the infirmary.

 

A requiem mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto and burial will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call at the convent parlor until 8 p.m. today and until the hour of the mass on Friday.
