Loretta M. Murrmann

Loretta M. Murrmann, 85, of Southfield Village Retirement Community, South Bend, IN, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2001, in her residence. Mrs. Murrmann was born on April 19, 1916, in Laurium, MI, to the late Ebal J. and Angeline (Courtois) Chayie. She moved to South Bend as a young child and has been a resident of the area ever since.

 

On April 15, 1939, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend, as Loretta M. Chayie, she married John R. Murrmann, who preceded her in death on October 4, 2000. Loretta and John enjoyed 61 years of marriage. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Jean Cannoot and Barbara Lee Jewell, both of South Bend; one son, William John (Nancy) Murrmann of Mishawaka, IN; a son in law, Kenn Stanek of Caledonia, MI; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ernestine Kaniewski-Rypniewski of South Bend, Julliette Maggart and Philonese Miles, both of Mishawaka, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Anne Louise Stanek, and a brother, Oliver J. Chayie. Mrs. Murrmann graduated from South Bend Central High School. She was employed as a secretary for the Bernie Bauer Soft Water Company for 25 years, before her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the American Turners and she enjoyed bowling and playing cards with family and friends. She also loved singing and playing the poco cello. Most of all, Loretta especially enjoyed being with her family.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. , Sunday, May 6, 2001, and from 10 to 11 a.m. , Monday, May 7, 2001, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend. A Rosary will be recited at 3 PM on Sunday, in the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Monday, in the Kaniewski Funeral Chapel, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
