SOUTH BEND - Dr. Philip Robert Myers, 65, of North Shore Drive, Edwardsburg, formerly of South Bend, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Dr. Myers retired in April 1995 as an emergency room doctor at Memorial Hospital. He was born April 16, 1930, in South Bend.

 

On June 12, 1954, in Elkhart, he married Virginia Jensen. She survives with a daughter, Melanie Myers of South Bend; four sons, Mark and Mike, both of Edwardsburg, Matt of Wayne, Mich., and Merril of Bloomington, Ill.; four grandchildren; and a brother, James E. of Edwardsburg.

 

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a graduate of Indiana University. He was president and founder of South Bend Emergency Physicians Inc., former member of Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, former president of Memorial Hospital Medical Staff, and founder and former medical director of South Bend Area Paramedics. He was a charter member, charter diplomat, life fellow, past president and member of the board of directors of American College of Emergency Physicians. He was a charter member and fellow of American Academy of Family Practice; a member of American Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Association, St. Joseph County Medical Society, American Legion Michigan Post 365, and Four Lakes Country Club. He was a former member of South Bend Country Club and past president of the Indiana Skeet Shooting Association. He attended Adamsville United Methodist Church.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
