Evelyn Jane Myers

SOUTH BEND - Evelyn Jane Myers, 79, passed away quietly on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7th, while surrounded by her children. She was born on April 5, 1929, in Mishawaka, to the late Mildred (Bennett) and Floyd Guyse. She grew up in Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School. She spent the next 25 years in South Bend raising her children, working for the Loft Restaurant as a waitress and being active in the community. She held the office of past president of the Wedgewood Park Garden Club and past president of the Christ the King Altar and Rosary Society. In the late 70s and early 80s she traveled extensively to the Middle East, Europe, South America and the Caribbean. Later she settled in Madera Beach, Florida. While in Florida, she obtained her real estate license and went to work for Coldwell Banker. During her seven years in Florida, she volunteered and became active in the St. Petersburg Garden Club, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Madeira Beach Holiday Decorations and Beautification Committee. She ran for the office of commissioner of Madeira Beach in March 1993 and lost by but a few votes. She returned to Indiana in 1995 where she spent time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing golf, fishing, boating and gardening. Evelyn is survived by her loving family: her daughter, Shirley Myers, and her husband, Don Mark of South Bend; her two sons, Tom Myers and his wife, Becky of Indianapolis, and John Myers of Syracuse, IN; three grandchildren, Sarah Myers, Tommy Myers and Cayla Myers; her sister, Joann Caenepeel of Mishawaka; her brother, Bob Guyse, and his wife, Carol of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her son, Wayne Myers, and by a grandson, Chad Myers.

 

Friends may visit with her family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12th, in the funeral home, with Rev. Kenneth Mendenhall officiating. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the start of services.
