M. Pauline Myers

June 20, 1914 - Oct. 24, 2006


M. Pauline Myers, 92, of Mishawaka, and formerly of South Bend, passed away Tuesday morning, October 24, 2006, in Hospice House, South Bend.

Pauline was born June 20, 1914, in Miami County, Indiana, a daughter of the late Ernest and Leota (Madlem) Burkholder. She grew up in the Akron and Gilead area and was a graduate of Gilead High School. Pauline attended Business College in Elkhart for two years. On November 19, 1942, in Lansing, Michigan, she married George M. Myers, and the couple made South Bend their home. Pauline had lived in Mishawaka with a son and daughter-in-law since 2003.

In Pauline's early years she was employed at the Singer Sewing Machine Company where she met her future husband. From 1944 through the late 1980s, she and her husband owned and operated Myers Sewing Machine Center in South Bend. Pauline also worked part-time at J.C. Penney in South Bend. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Bend. In her mature years, Pauline was active with the Harvest House Group. Pauline and her sister, Geraldine, were identical twins and they won many national awards for looking the most identical. Pauline was an excellent seamstress and baker and she enjoyed traveling. Pauline's family was an important part of her life.

Her surviving family includes seven children, Francis J. “Frank” (Nancy) Myers of Lake Forest, IL, Patrick D. Myers of Elkhart, Jane A. Myers of St. Paul, MN, Dennis G. (Michelle) Myers of Brunswick, OH, Paula L. (Frank) Lugar of Spring Valley, WI, Thomas M. (Sheryl) Myers of Mishawaka and Mary E. (Don) Renfro of San Diego, CA; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ombra Keffaber of Wabash.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, George; a brother, Donald Burkholder; and by three sisters, Vera Tait, Vesta Gaerte and H. Geraldine Myers.

Friends may spend time with Pauline's family today (Thursday) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka. The Rosary will be prayed today at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 226 N. Hill Street, South Bend, with Rev. Paul Doyle, C.S.C, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Mishawaka.
