Sister Mary Alfreda CSC, 96, of St. Mary’s Convent, died Wednesday in the convent. Sister Alfreda was born Jan. 26, 1892 in Rensselaer. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on May 24, 1913, coming from Plymouth. She was received as a novice Dec. 10, 1913, and professed her vows Dec. 10, 1915. She was a registered nurse and also served in the elementary schools.

 

She served at the student infirmary at the University of Notre Dame and St. Mary’s convent and also was given education assignments at St. Joseph school in South Bend, and in Idaho, California, Utah. Pennsylvania Washington, DC, and Colorado.

 

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church, Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. today in the convent parlors, where a wake service will begin at 7 p.m. Hickey Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ministry of the Poor Fund at St. Mary’s College.
