Mary Elizabeth Napolitano

Mary Elizabeth Napolitano, 89, of Oakmont Central Drive, South Bend, Ind., died Thursday afternoon in Regency Place. She was born Jan. 26, 1913, in Syracuse, N.Y., to William J. and Marie E. (Kohl) Schweinfest, who preceded her in death along with two brothers, William J. Schweinfest and Paul Schweinfest; and three sisters, Rita Moir, Jeanne Erdich and Dolores Metzler

Mrs. Napolitano has lived in the South Bend area since 1940 after coming from Pleasantville, N.Y.

 

On Jan. 29,1940, in Pleasantville, she married Dominic (Nappy) Napolitano, founder of the Bengel Bouts Boxing program at the University of Notre Dame, who died April 30,1986. Surviving is a sister, Gay Manasi of Fishkill, N.Y.; and a brother, Karl G. Schweinfest of Hicksville, N.Y.

 

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16 in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the Notre Dame campus where burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend (574/289-1000). Mrs. Napolitano was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Ladies of Notre Dame. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice, Hospice of St. Joseph County or Dominic J. Napolitano Scholarship Fund at the University of Notre Dame.
