Maria A. Nauts

MISHAWAKA - Maria A. Nauts, formerly of West Ninth Street, died at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, in Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, after an illness. Mrs. Nauts was born Aug. 27, 1907, in Stekene, Belgium, and was an area resident since 1920.

 

In Mishawaka, as Maria De Block, she married Alphons Nauts. He died March 26, 1958. Mrs. Nauts is survived by one son, Henry (Mary) Nauts of Englewood, Fla.; two daughters, Yvonne (Ray) Lievens of Mishawaka and Dorothy (George) Gaut of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one brother, Omer De Block of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph De Block.

 

Mrs. Nauts was the former owner of The Wooden Shoe Tavern and Curleys Tavern in Mishawaka. She was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, B-K Club Ladies Auxiliary and B-K Club Archeretts.

 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Bavo's Catholic Church with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth St., Mishawaka, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bavo's Catholic Church, 511 W.
