Betty M. Nemeth

SOUTH BEND - Betty M. Nemeth, 81, of South Bend, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2008, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital, South Bend. She was born on March 5, 1927, in Dowagiac, MI, to the late Ward Harle and Mildred Caroline (Lang) Evans. She graduated from Riley High School in 1945 and went on to receive her LPN degree from Ivy Tech. On June 8, 1946, as Betty Evans, she married Steve J. Nemeth, who preceded her in death on March 27, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Christina M. Townsend, and by a brother, Robert J. Evans. Mrs. Nemeth is survived by a daughter, Michelle A. (Jason) Beplay of Granger, IN; her son, Steve J. (Paula) Nemeth Jr. of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Melanie Thornton, James Townsend, Margaret Roney, Joshua Nemeth, Stephanie Nemeth, Jenny Nemeth (deceased), Ryan Beplay and Sarah Beplay; eight great-grandchildren, Tristin Thornton, James Townsend, Madison Townsend, Travis Roney, Charlotte Roney, Morgan Nemeth, Izabella Nemeth and Madison Nemeth; and a step-great-granddaughter, Ariana Snyder. Betty and Steve were proud of their close partnership and marriage of over 50 years. They shared traveling, cruises and supporting local NML functions. Raising the family was first and foremost. Once the children were grown, Betty went on to a nursing career with St. Mary's Convent for 24 years as an LPN and prior to that at Memorial Hospital. She was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church, South Bend, for 50 years. Among the many other things she enjoyed were knitting, sewing, gardening, cooking and baking.

 

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christ the King Church, 52473 S.R. 933, South Bend. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend IN 46637.
