Elizabeth M. Nemeth (Dec. 25, 1914 -- Feb. 19, 2004)

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Nemeth, 89, of Miller's Merry Manor, Walkerton, Ind., formerly of Scott Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in Miller's Merry Manor.

 

Betty was born on Dec. 25, 1914 in South Bend to Alex and Elizabeth Molnar. She was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church, its St. Ann Society and Sacred Heart & Rosary Society. Elizabeth enjoyed cooking and would often be found in the parish kitchen for funeral luncheons and other functions. On May 15, 1937, in South Bend, she married Stephen F. "Abie" Nemeth. He died on Aug. 16, 1980. Mrs. Nemeth was also preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Michael Gorbitz; and a brother, Joseph Molnar.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Judith (Ted) Cichos of South Bend; two sons, Ronald "Peanuts" Nemeth of Lady Lake, Fla. and Stephen (Belinda) Nemeth of Sun Valley, Nev.; eight grandchildren, Tim (Linda) Cichos, Jill (Steven) Popielski, Melissa Nemeth, Kelly Nemeth, Sue Harder, Dan Spromberg, all of South Bend, Danielle (Cord) Chigbrow of Hidden Springs, Idaho, and Shana (Jon) Thompson of Reno, Nev.; ten great-grandchildren, Derek Cichos, Mark Cichos, Jessica Popielski, Kassidy Popielski, Mickey Thompson, Cody Thompson, Joey Chigbrow, Samuel Chigbrow, Brittany Harder, and Tyler Harder; a sister, Agnes Grabarek of South Bend; and two brothers, William (Alex) Gorbitz of South Bend and Stephen (Vicki) Gorbitz of Granger, Ind.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 6 today, Feb. 22, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Ave., where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m.
