George R. Nemeth

March 25, 1916 - April 10, 1999

George R. ''Harpo'' Nemeth, 83, of West Broadway, Mishawaka, Ind., died on Saturday afternoon, April 10, in Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Nemeth retired from the maintenance department of St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, and from the Studebaker and Oliver Plow Works.

He was born on March 25, 1916, in South Bend, Ind., and had been a lifetime area resident.

 

On April 20, 1940, in South Bend, he married Madeline J. Kenna, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Georgia Ann Bassler and Paulette Christine (Chris) Doan, both of Mishawaka; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and by a daughter-in-law. He was preceded in death by a son, Burl Nemeth; a sister, Mary Mason; and by a brother, Peter Nemeth.

 

Mr. Nemeth was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church where he was a member of the Usher's Club, a member of Moose Lodge 50 and the Knights of Columbus, Mishawaka Council. Mr. Nemeth also hit a hole-in-one at Eberhart Golf Course in Mishawaka and was active in Union activities.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., with Rev. William Sullivan, pastor of St. Monica's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home, where a wake service will be held at 5 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until services on Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Monica's Church or to Alzheimer's.
