Juliann Newhouse, 87, of 105 Michigan Avenue, Dowagiac, Mich., died Saturday, Oct. 9, in Lee Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Dowagiac at 105 Michigan Avenue on Nov. 6, 1911, to Ray and Olive (Bennedix) Burlingame.
On Feb. 8, 1934, she married Fred Newhouse in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1990.
Mrs. Newhouse and her husband owned J.B. Gill on Commercial Street in Dowagiac during the 1940s, and the Green Lantern Restaurant on the north shore of Indian Lake for 21 years. She was a cook at Notre Dame University, retiring in 1971. She was a life member of the Eastern Star, belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1855, and was a bingo volunteer at the Dowagiac Nursing home.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the Groner Funeral Home, Dowagiac. Rev. Randy Murphy of the Federated Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Groner Funeral Home.
