Brother Sylvanus Nichols CSC, 67, died Wednesday night in the Community Infirmary of the campus of the University of Notre Dame. He was born Henry Nichols on Oct. 12, 1891 in West Grinstead, Sussex, England, and received the habit of the Brothers of Holy Cross on Feb. 1, 1928. He made his perpetual profession of vows on July 2, 1932. He had been a cook in the Moreau Seminary on the Notre Dame campus from 1929 to 1932, and in Dujarie Hall from 1932 to 1934. He served as a cook at Holy Trinity High School, Chicago in 1934 and 1935, at Holy Cross Seminary in North Easton, Mass. until 1938, at he foreign Missions Seminary in Washington, DC until 1941, and at Columba Hall, Notre Dame until 1956. He had been ill since 1956.

 

Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Church on the Notre Dame campus. The Office of the Dead bill be said at 5 p.m. Friday in the church. Friends may call in Columba Hall after 5 p.m. today. Burial will be in the Notre Dame Community Cemetery.
