SOUTH BEND - Wilfred C. “Nick”Nickel, 96, was born December 11, 1911, in Plymouth, NE. He departed this life on January 10, 2008 at the Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation in South Bend, Indiana after a one-month illness. His parents were Fred and Mattie Nickel. Nick lived in the South Bend, Mishawaka area since 1929. He retired from Dodge Manufacturing in 1974, after 25 years of service, most of which was as a warehouse worker.

 

On October 3, 1942, he married the former Opal Foust, who survives. They celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary on October 3, 2007. Nick served his country in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II. He spent eleven years with Opal in Fort Meade, FL. Other survivors are his son, Don (Nancy) Nickel of Brooksville, FL; grandson, Aaron of Mishawaka; granddaughter, Carmen (Brian) Cox of Lowell, IN. and a host of Opal's relatives.

 

Visitation will be at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN., on Sunday, January 13, 2008, from 1 to 5 p.m. Entombment will take place at the Riverview Cemetery in South Bend, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to donor's charity of choice.
