Elizabeth M. "Dolly" Nix, 89, of Mishawaka, passed away Friday evening, November 25, 2005, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital, South Bend.

Dolly was born August 22, 1916, in Mishawaka, a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Lehman) Gleissner. She grew up in Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School. Dolly worked at Ball Band before marrying Elmo F. Nix on November 27, 1943. The couple made Mishawaka their home and Dolly became a homemaker.

Dolly was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She formerly belonged to St. Monica Church. Dolly was a good cook and enjoyed making Christmas decorations. She enjoyed furthering her knowledge by being an avid reader. Dolly was an athletic person who particularly loved tennis. In her younger days, she was a Mishawaka City Tennis Champion. She was also a good ice skater. Dolly was very fond of watching tennis tournaments and Notre Dame football. Most of all she is remembered as being a great mother.

Dolly's surviving family includes her three children, Richard T. Nix of Plymouth, Carol Ann Nix of Plymouth and Diane E. (Don) Torok of South Bend; three grandchildren, Nick Torok, Annie Nix and Rich Nix Jr.; and a great-grandchild, Jordyn Matherly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo; five brothers, George, Fred, Tom, Gene and John Gleissner; and by a sister, Lucille Lindahl.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. The family will receive friends in the church one hour prior to the Mass. Private burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or to St. Joseph Church.

The Nix family is being served by Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka.
