James Thomas Nolen

SOUTH BEND - James Thomas Nolen, 91, of Robinson Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 3, 1906, in Paulding County, Ohio. He had lived in South Bend since 1942.

 

In 1926, in Fort Wayne, Ind., he married Olive Jones, who preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1985. Mr. Nolen was also preceded in death by his son, James L., who died on Dec. 5, 1990. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Nolen of South Bend; three grandchildren, Cherie Richhart of Lakeville, Ind., Linda King of Dowagiac, Mich., and Tom Nolen of LaPaz, Ind.; 12 great-grandchildren, Becky, Micah, Joshua, Jason, Katie, Jenni and Ben Richhart, Shonda Henry, T.J. and Eric Nolen, Scott and Bryan Powell; and by two great-great-grandchildren, Mitchel and Matthew Henry.

 

He retired from the Bendix Corporation where he worked in the tool and die department. Mr. Nolen was a longtime member of St. Joseph Masonic Lodge 294, now called St. Joseph Masonic Lodge 45. He was also a member of Scottish Rite and of Bendix Local #9.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood, where Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Gravesite services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco, Ind.
