Sister Mary Celestyn CSC, of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, died in Saint Mary’s Convent after a prolonged illness. She was born as Mary Josephine Norris, in Chicago in 1884. She was educated in Chicago and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross from there in 1912. She received the habit in 1912, and made her profession of vows in 1913. During her community life she taught in Salt Lake City, Utah; Washington DC; New York; Marshall, Tex.; Morris, Ill.; Woodstock, Ill.; and also at St. Mary’s Academy at Notre Dame. She was superior and teacher at St. Joseph Grade School in South Bend in 1931.She also spent many years as a teacher in Anderson, Ind., until her retirement to the motherhouse in 1955.

 

A requiem high mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the convent chapel. Remains may be viewed in the novitiate parlors.
