M. Virginia Nowak (May 10, 1912 - April 12, 2007)

GRANGER -- Mrs. Mary Virginia Nowak, 94, of Walnut Pointe, passed away Thursday at 2:45pm in her residence following an illness.

 

Virginia was born to Charles and Genevieve (Neenan) Doran in South Bend on May 10, 1912. She graduated from South Bend Central High School in the Class of 1931. On April 20, 1944 she married Edward J. Nowak and passed away in 1993.

 

She had lived with and was primarily cared for by her daughter Mary Ellen Roe of Granger; other survivors include another daughter Christine (Rex, deceased) Newcomer of Osceola; two sons: Thomas E. (Joan) Nowak of Granger; and Daniel D. Nowak of Edwardsburg, MI; a brother Jerome "Jake" Doran of South Bend. Her surviving grandchildren are: Emilee (Brent) Lake of Niles, MI; Andy (Amie) Nowak and Mark Nowak both of Granger; Jennifer and Matthew Nowak both of Edwardsburg; Erin G. (Molly Reed) Roe, DMV of Toledo, OH Shane and Kara Roe of Warsaw, IN. She will also be missed by her ten great-grandchildren and the following "Special Friends" Debbie and Bob Zerr, Julie Goepfrich, Susan, Mary and Kathryn Helms. The family would like to extend a heart felt "THANK YOU" to Dr. Michael Helms for his care and understanding during this most difficult time.

 

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Pius X Parish where she was a member, with Rev. Bill Schooler, Pastor, officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. in the church. Cremation will follow.

 

Mrs. Nowak was involved with the St. Vincent DePaul Society through St. Anthony's Church and played golf until age 86 in the Studebaker and Playland Golf Leagues.
