Anna Nowicki, 96, of South Bend, passed away at 6:05 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2006, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.

                                 

Anna was born in Hellegem, Belgium, on June 8, 1910, to Rene and Lucina (Tavernier) Meuleman. On May 29, 1935, she married Leo C. Nowicki, who passed away in 2002. Also preceding her in death were brothers, Joseph, Ray and Albert Meuleman, and a sister, Mary Pinter.

 

Surviving Anna are daughters, Mary Ann (Michael) Rafalski, whom she resided with, Virginia (Ralph) Bartels of Osceola, Geraldine (Thomas) Sternal of Fort Wayne, Elizabeth (LeRoy) Skodinski of Orting, Wash., and Catherine Harriet (Rumschlag) Nowicki of Fort Wayne; 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

 

Anna had retired from Robertson's Department Store after 10 years of service. She loved bingo, and liked to keep busy with crocheting. She made afghans for all of her children along with many neck scarves and decorative dish towels. She was an excellent baker and cook. She had made many friends at Healthwin. Anna was a member of Holy Family Church and Altar and Rosary Society, and was a leader of the former Holy Family Harvest House for 17 years.

 

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 20, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary was said at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place today, November 21, 2006, in Holy Family Catholic Church at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, Healthwin Activities Department, Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, or to the Fort Wayne Center for Non-Violence.
