Leo J. Nowicki: (South Bend Tribune 5/22/1975)


Leo J. Nowicki, 67, of 628 Western, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Farris-Lombardy Nursing Home after a two-month illness. Nowicki was a former owner and operator of the Arnold Cafe for 40 years. Born May 26, 1907, in South Bend, he had lived here his lifetime. On Sept. 15, 1936, he married Hilda Radzius, who died Oct. 11, 1957. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Diane Klowetter of South Bend; two brothers, Edmund of Indianapolis and Charles of Marion, and five sisters, Mrs. Blanche Odor, Mrs. Jane Klimek, Mrs. Marie VanderHeyden, Mrs. Sophie Cherpes and Mrs. Josephine Varga, all of South Bend. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Casimir’s Catholic Church. Rev. George H. Szymanowski, C.S.C., pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home where a parish vigil  service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
