SOUTH BEND - Irene I. Nowinski, 87,
of St. Paul's Retirement Community, formerly of Thomas Street,
South Bend, Ind., died at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, in St.
Paul's Health Care Center, South Bend. Mrs. Nowinski was born on
May 26, 1910, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.
On June 4, 1935, in South Bend, as Irene I.
Kusnierek, she married Bert Nowinski, who preceded her in death
on March 7, 1966. She was also preceded in death by two sisters,
Esther Doty and Cornelia Kusnierek; a brother, Joseph
Kusnierek; and by a nephew, Anthony Kusnierek, Jr. Mrs. Nowinski
is survived by a brother, Anthony (Henrietta) Kusnierek, Sr., of
South Bend; a niece, Jeannine (Thom) Villing of South
Bend; and by three nephews, Thomas (Dawn) Doty of Downingtown,
Pa., Merwyn (Nancy) Kusnierek of South Bend, and Cornelius (Mary)
Kusnierek of Thousand Oaks, Calif. Mrs. Nowinski belonged to St.
Hedwig Parish and to the St. Hedwig Ladies' Rosary Society.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on
Saturday at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, with Reverend Thomas F.
Lemos, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow in Highland
Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the
Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a
parish Rosary will be recited at 6 pm. Memorial contributions may
be made to St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 1102 W. Thomas Street,
South Bend, IN 46601; to St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 331 S. Scott
Street, South Bend, IN 46601; or to the Chapin Street Clinic, 305
Chapin Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
