Sister Mary Melita Nugent CSC

Services were held today in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s College for Sister Mary Melita CSC, who died Sunday in Saint Mary’s Convent after a long illness. Burial was in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus.

 

She was born Rose Elizabeth Nugent in Alexandria, Va. 1880. She was educated in Alexandria and entered the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1901, receiving the habit the same year. She made her profession of vows in 1903. During her community life she was assigned to Plymouth and Crawfordsville, Ind.; Baltimore; Lancaster, Pa.; and New York City. For most of her teaching career she was stationed in the Washington DC area. The greater portion of her assignment was to Academy of the Holy Cross where she was stationed 32 years. Her early years od retirement also were spent at the Academy of the Holy Cross and Dunbarton College, Washington DC. She came to St. Mary’s Convent in 1964.
