Julia Nyerges

Julia Nyerges, 99, formerly of East Madison Street in South Bend, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, in Hospice House after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 27, 1906, in Paducah, Kentucky, the youngest child of John Lane and Julia Farrington Lane. On Sept. 30, 1950, in South Bend, she married Paul F. Nyerges, who died March 25, 2002.

Julia's siblings were Leo J. Lane, Mary Genevieve Lane Vanderbosch (William) and Jean Farrington Lane (Bess). The family moved from Kentucky to South Bend in 1909, and lived for many years on East Bronson Street.

After a brief time living in Chicago as a young adult, Julia returned to South Bend where she worked in the office of Mayor George Schock. She also worked for the South Bend City Clerk and kept minutes of Common Council meetings. For many years she worked in the office at the Frances Shop in South Bend.

Julia is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 13, in St. Anthony De Padua Catholic Church in South Bend. Friends may call one hour before services. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.
