Brother Malachy CSC, 67, died Monday afternoon in Columba Hall at the University of Notre Dame as the result of a heart attack. He was born Sept. 1890 in Alpena, Mich. as Robert O’Brien. He received the habit in the Holy Cross Order at Notre Dame on July 1, 1933, and made his first vows there on Aug. 16, 1934. For some time he was assigned at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans as an engineer. Later he was engineer and supervisor of boys at Gilbault School for Boys in Terre Haute. After that he served in a similar capacity at St. Charles Boys Home in Milwaukee. He came to Columba Hall at Notre Dame in 1953.

 

The body will lie in Columba Hall after 2 p.m. today. A requiem high mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church, with burial in the community cemetery at Notre Dame.
