Sister Marie Estelle, C.S.C., 78, of St. Mary’s Convent, Notre Dame, died at 9:40 p.m. Saturday in the convent after a long illness. Born Mary Agnes O’Brien on June 17, 1891 in Tipperary, Ireland, she entered the congregation in October, 1913. She made her profession of vows in 1916. She taught at Holy Cross Academy in Washington, D.C. until 1927, when she was assigned to missions in the Dacca Diocese of India. She taught in several village schools in East Bengal. In 1947, she started an orphanage for famine victims in India, where she remained until 1959 when she came to St. Mary’s Convent. Funeral services were to be held at 5 p.m. today in the Church of Loretto on St. Mary’s campus. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s.
