Sister Amandeus O’Brien CSC, 76, of 1300 E. Erskine Manor, died Saturday morning in Saint Mary’s Convent. She was born May 10, 1912 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, as Marie Irene O’Brien. On Feb. 2, 1931, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s. She was received as a novice Aug. 15, 1931 and professed her vows in 1933. Sister Amandeus was assigned to teaching music throughout her community life. She taught at St. Mary’s College, St. Mary’s Academy in South Bend and Holy Cross School in South Bend. She also taught at schools in Elkhart, Chicago, Woodstock, Ill.; Danville, Ill.; and Spring Valley, Ill. She then was assigned to Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent in South Bend, where she continued her community service until her recent illness.

 

Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Church of Loretto with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both at St. Mary’s. Friends may call Tuesday and Wednesday at St. Mary’s Convent where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday
