Sister Katherine Loretta O’Connell CSC, 61, of St. Joseph High School Convent died at 3:05 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend. She was born March 31, 1928 in Chicago and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s College on Sept. 2, 1946, coming from Chicago. She was received as a novice Aug. 15, 1947, and professed her vows Aug. 15, 1948. She was assigned to teaching and taught in every grade school in the elementary school system. She was principal of Holy Cross School form 1973 to 1984 and taught at Queens of Saints School in Michigan City. She also taught at St. Vincent’s and St. Thomas Apostle schools in Elkhart; St. Michael’s in Plymouth from 1953 to 1955; schools in East Chicago; and schools in Illinois. From 1984 to 1986 she served in the office at St. Mary’s College and was appointed religious superior in 1987 at Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent and served on the board of directors of Holy Cross-Parkview Hospital in Plymouth.

 

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Loretto Church at St. Mary’s with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary’s Convent where a wake will be held at 7 p.m.
