Brother John O’Hogan CSC

Feb. 2, 1842 – Apr. 17, 1913

South Bend Tribune 4/18/1913

Injuries sustained in a fall while going to his room on the third floor of the administration building at Notre Dame University last night, resulted in the death of Brother John of God, 71, at St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend, late in the evening. Heart disease and growing feedlement resulting from old age were the causes of the accident. He was stricken as he was rounding the top of the steps of his journey. Brother John of God had been growing noticeably feeble for some time, although his active life and genial good humor repelled any idea of sickness. He was a member of the community of Notre Dame for 35 years, having been professed Sept. 29, 1879, and for years past had supervision of the meat shop at the university. The extent of his purchases from farmers in the vicinity of Notre Dame gave him a wide acquaintance among the country folk, as well as among the Chicago packers from whom he purchased meat supplies for the university. He was born in Neenah County, Ireland on Feb. 2, 1942, and received the habit at Notre Dame June 21, 1877, being professed two years later. In the world he was Patrick O’Hogan.

Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heat Church tomorrow with burial in the community cemetery.
