SOUTH BEND - Gloria Cynthia Okereke, 76, was born Mary 19, 1932 in Happy Grove, Portland, Jamaica, West Indies and went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2008. Gloria moved to South Bend in 1977 from Kingston, Jamaica. Gloria retired from Memorial Hospital after 18 years of service. She was a member of the Berean SDA Church where she faithfully served in the Sabbath School and Community Services Departments. She was also a Pathfinder Master Guide. She is survived by her daughter, Gaynor Okereke; and son, Larry (Tina) Okereke; and three grandchildren, Cheokie, Akachi and Nnenia. Her husband, Akachi Okereke and a son, Ibe Okereke preceded her in death. She is also survivied by her father, Cary Duhaney; stepmother, Emma Duhaney; her sisters, Elizabeth (Cedric) Allen, Erna Solomon, Hope (Kingsley) Sangster; brothers, Dr. Hugh Duhaney, Balfour (Moira), Ernest and Harvey (Connie) Duhaney; her step sister, Toye (Gary) Simmons; stepbrothers, Richard (Grace), Stan and Knowel (Brenda) Broadway, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008, in Alford's Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008, in Berean SDA Church followed by graveside service at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Arrangements have been entrusted with Alford's Mortuary.
