Charles J. O’Neill, 88, of 1322 Lake Drive, Mendota died Jan. 3, 2006 at his home.
Funeral services were held at noon on Dec. 5 at the Merritt Funeral Home with Deacon Vincent Slomian officiating. Cremation rites were accorded. Visitation was held from 10:30 a.m. until time of services on Dec. 5 at the funeral home.

Mr. O’Neill was born April 18, 1917 in Kalamazoo, Mich. to James and Emma (Born) O’Neill. He married Marillyn Jeanne Barlow on June 6, 1941 in South Bend, Ind.

Survivors include his wife of Mendota; one son, J.J. O’Neill of Carbondale; one daughter, Peggy (Arlan) Haas of Franklin, Tenn.; two granddaughters; three great granddaughters; one brother, Richard J. (Betty) O’Neill of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; and two sisters, Peggy Policinski of Wayzata, Minn. and Dorothy (William) Bodden of Portage, Wis.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Mr. O’Neill attended the University of Notre Dame. He was employed by Conco Inc. as an engineer for 26 years and moved from Brazil, Ind. to Mendota in 1958. Memorials may be directed to Illinois Valley Hospice or Holy Cross Church.
